What is Hypnotherpy and NLP?


WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?

It is a lot like daydreaming; when we daydream we alter our state of consciousness, engage in dreams, fantasies or simply zone in. We are conscious and aware and are generally oblivious to external distractions, as we are focused on our internal being (sub consciousness). We do this on a daily basis e.g. reading, watching TV, being absorbed in music.
Hypnosis is a technique that allows you to deliberately achieve this altered state of consciousness - the day-dream-state, in order to direct your focus towards the goals that you wish to achieve.
The brain has ranges in frequency from Delta, Theta, Alpha and Beta. Delta is total unconsciousness, Theta has some range of subconscious and Alpha is generally referred to as the subconscious range. We are in Alpha range when we dream (whilst asleep), day dreaming and meditate.
Nearly all hypnosis takes place in Alpha state and psychic experiences are also reported to take place in this state. Beta is the conscious mind, this is where we do most of our reasoning and direct ourselves in our day to day activities through our logical mind. When we go to sleep our brain automatically slows down from Beta to Alpha.

THE CONSCIOUS MIND

The conscious mind is our logical mind and is responsible for thinking, reasoning and putting things into action, habits or behaviours that it already knows.
Our conscious mind however is limited according to psychologist George Miller (1952) stating “we are only able to master 7+ or – 2 pieces of information in the present moment ”.
Our brains can then become over loaded or we may even feel stressed. The conscious mind does not take well to suggestion.

Subconscious Mind

THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND


Our Subconscious mind is controlled by the limbic system, stores all our memories and emotions in relation to those memories. It is the centre responsible for pain and pleasure. It is our own wonderful warehouse, or private library filled with our own resources which are often hidden deep within ourselves.
The beauty of hypnosis is that it acts as a tool to guide you into this day dream subconscious state in order to tap into those resources you already have in order to reach your goals.

WHAT IS NLP?

Neuro Linguistic Programming

NLP is about our experiences, how we know our world and the people in it. This is dependent on how we create our own reality. The world and our own reality are created by the way we perceive things and map them out in our minds.
We do this by filtering information received through our senses; sight, hearing, feeling, touch, taste & smell. This information is then internalized to our thoughts and interpreted into our own perceptions. These interpretations are stored in our memories and format our belief systems.
NLP is a model that provides us with tools to understand and unlock these beliefs (if necessary), improving the way we see, hear and feel about the world. It is an amazing tool box that can really improve all areas of your life.
